Laugh while you still have teeth

Africans are laughing quite a lot. When you look out of your room in the morning, you will be welcomed to the new day with a big smile of your guide. Being a guest for lunch with the locals can turn into a huge laughing party. We easily think Africans are laughing away their misery, and that this kind of laughing is fake. Nothing is less true.
An African experiences and understands that life cannot be controlled. From that insight a laugh is easily arising from their hearts and they relativize more. Being in Tanzania will somehow cheer you up.

The heart is central
Through this nomadic Tour we will weave a profound program to support you to live from your heart every day. Most of us are taught to live more from their head. We are separated to much from our heart. That way we are separated from love, connection, peacefulness, joy, laughter and wisdom, For 15 days we will focus on our heart, doing exercises to open it and to stay there. You will come out of this safari with a shiny smile and know what to do to return to your heart when needed in daily life.

Everbody gives what he has
If we would have more to give, then we would do that. The moment you start seeing that, you will appreciate more what is there for you and find the way to more warmth and inner contentment. This will show in your inner relationships with people.

During this safari you will practize to be in harmony with what is (reality). From there a smile will arise in your heart and you will be able to laugh more about all our limitations and weak moments, Welcome in Tanzania.

Laugh while you still have teeth

A 15 day mountain, beach and wildpark safari

This safari is a feast, an entertaining  discovery trip “off the beaten track” through the mountain and coastal area of Tanzania. It outshines every other safari in a diversity in landscapes, activities and sleeping accomodations.
The Usambara mountains in the North with all their beautiful curves and rough rock parties and the Uluguru mountains in the South, rising up majestically over the plains, south of Morogoro, are very suitable for fantastic walking tours. Morogoro offers one of the best outdoor clubs in Tanzania, where the throbbing rhythms, will drive you crazy.
The coastal area offers deserted beaches and fishermen villages where we will be able to slow down, to relax, to enjoy the waves, to meditate, to snorkel, listen to historical stories, eat at a local guide and his family, and more.
At famous Selous nature reserve we will meet lots of wild animals to have an unprecedented day during a boat safari.

Mindful program
During this tour we offer a program with the aim to untie you from the idea that happiness is related to getting what you want. This general idea drives you to run after all your longings and brings you to fight everything that expires differently.  At the end of this journey hopefully you will laugh, just like Africans, for all the silly attempts to get life your way. Welcome at Mindful Adventure.

Travel schedule

Day 1

After you arrive at Kilimanjaro airport you may greet the typical african scent. With landcruisers we will drive you to Secret Garden, a charming, atmospheric, local hotel in Moshi, with a view on Mount Kilimanjaro. Take notice of the wooden details in the building and the friendly service of the people who work here. You will spend the night with pleasure.

Day 2

After breakfast we will get to know each other and we will make the first start with the mindful program. Before lunch we will depart tot he little town Lushoto, located in the Usambara Mountains. It will be nice to wander through town, enjoy the atmosphere and have a look at the streetlife and the colorful market.
Later we will go to Irente Viewpoint and hope to watch the sunset in the “Usambian” way. In this case Usambian means smashing. You will spend the night in the Lawns Hotel.

Day 3

Our guide Dennis Munga will pick you up for your first walking day (15 km). After a little village we will pass Magamba rainforest, the homeland of the Colobus monkey. You will eat the Usambara guacamole with chapati (homemade by Dennis) for lunch and continue the walk through forests and farmland, arriving at Papaa Moze Lodge to spend the evening and the night. Guide Dennis is born and raised in the Usambara Mountains and can bes een on the picture.

Special attention please for the beautiful trees along the roads and a very special little “man” in Usambara Mountains you will meet everywhere. But you have to learn to get an eye for it. His survival strategy is basic but genious and also many humans are using it. His name? The Kameleon!

Day 4

yoga Usambara TanzaniaYour second day of walking today again will cross farmland and forests.

You will meet the local Shambaa Tribe, learn about medical plants, play with kameleons and enjoy the mountains and views even more with the help of the mindfulness exercises during the walk. That night you will sleep at Maguma Hill Lodge.

Day 5

Usambara flowersOn your last walking day you will start early like every day with a morning meditation. After that we walk via the forests of Shagayu tot he village of Sunga, where we will have a lunch with the locals. In the afternoon we will come by a pottery, where you can learn how to make a pot. You will end the day with a drumming workshop and performance, and sleep at Mambo Cliff Inn.

Day 6

In the morning we will leave the Usambara Mountains and drive to Tanga (2-3 hours). Tanga is a lovely, lively but also a bit sleepy town at the Indian Ocean. At night you are invited to the family of guide Abdullatif, to have dinner with them and enjoy a musical treat.

Pangani Beach Tanzania

Day 7

By this time you will be ready for a day at a very authentic beach. And that’s what we are going to do today and tomorrow. We will leave for Pangani/Ushonga at the sea. A short but nice ride with the characteristic landscape of the Tanzanian Eastcoast. Here you will get the chance to enjoy bright white beaches, the fisherman villages, the peaceful local atmosphere, rest, taking a sunbath, snorkeling and swimming. Despite the perfect beaches there is very little tourisme here, because everybody is being directed to Zanzibar. We don’t mind at all and we love the quietness. You will have the possibility to take a historic tour of one hour with a local guide. At the end of the day, when the sun sets we offer a dance meditation on the almost deserted beach, a joy for your heart. You will spend the night in Drifters Lodge.

Day 8

Usambara houseWe will stay at Drifters Lodge, because today we will go snorkeling at Kasa Divers. We will take a boat in the direction of Zanzibar, and take several hours to enjoy the beautiful underwater views at the coral reef.

Day 9

From Ushongo Bay we will move on to another forgotten pearl north of Dar Es Salaam. Bagomoyo is located at the sea and has a very rich historic background, mainly visible in the architecture of the town. We will make a historic tour with a local guide. Walking through the narrow unpaved streets, you might feel like being back in the middle of the 19th century. Bagamoyo was one of the most important settlements along the East African coast. Slaves, ivory and salt were unloaded here before being shipped to Zanzibar. Yes, there are many stories about Bagamoyo. You will spend the night at Firefly Lodge.

Day 10 and 11

The next morning we leave for Morogoro, at day 11 we will walk into the mountains for the most beautiful daytrip of the Uluguru Mountains. Again we will walk through villages, forests and farmland with beautiful views on the hills and mountains. After the heat at the coast the walk through Uluguru will be refreshing and the power will come back to your legs. You will sleep two nights at Mama Pierini hotel. For who wants to join, there is a fantastic open air club with traditional upbeat, “go crazy” music and modern beats that will get your feet moving.

Day 12

hippo TanzaniaFrom the Uluguru Mountains we move on to the biggest wildpark of Tanzania: Selous. If we arrive on time we can do a gamedrive in the evening. At night you will sleep in River Camp Rufiji, where the sounds of wild nature will hopefully wake you a few times, so you can be fascinated by them.

Day 13

An absolute highlight during this safari will be the boat safari on Rufiji river. Here you can spot may wild animals – what an experience! I’ll give away that the sunsets that can be seen from the boat are famous. At night you will sleep again in River Camp Rufiji.

Day 14

It is time to travel on to Dar Es Salaam. Here we will end the safari together in the Golden Tulip Hotel in the centre of the city.

Day 15

Today you will fly home. In case you have a night flight, it is possible to do a city tour in the old town centre (optional).
We believe you will have made an unforgettable trip with the team of Mindful Adventure through authentic mountain and coastal area’s of Tanzania. We hope on the way you have gained new perspectives on happiness and that you had many african laughs.
